Hi folks! It is February again which means it is time for our annual members meeting. If you’d like to take an active role in Ukrainian Youth in Sweden or just interested in what is going on with the organization come on Friday 23/2. During the meeting we will vote for the new Board which will then elect the Chairman. If you are a member you can vote directly, if not you can become a member during the meeting, membership fee is only 50 kr per year.

Following our yearly tradition, we are happy to invite you and your friends to the Charity Board Games. Besides playing board games, networking and having much fun, you’ll have a chance to contribute to Ukrainian national defense.
This time Charity Board Games is dedicated to raising funds for the needs of the military base ВO111 that protects Ukraine from the Russian aggression on the front line since 2014. The money we collect will be spend on laptops, printers, paper and cartridges. These are important things for reporting and internal documentation that are unfortunately uncovered by limited budget. Our member’s (Asya Kostashenko) brother who is deputy commander of this base has asked for help.
Please do come down and join us on Sunday, April 2, at 5pm in Dynamo (Södermannagatan 38).
Starting voluntary contribution is 100 SEK. Since it’s a charity event, there will be no checks prior or during the event, but we rely on your kindness and honesty.

Today, 23 March, during the visit of the delegation of Naval Forces of Ukraine headed by the First Deputy Commander of Naval Forces of Ukraine, Rear Admiral A. Tarasov to Sweden held a meeting with the council of the Ukrainian Youth Sweden.
During the dialogue, the Ukrainian military has stressed the importance of strengthening the cooperation between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Sweden, drew attention to the successful development of youth organizations in maintaining morale of Ukrainian soldiers in the area of anti-terrorist operation in Donbass and thanked for providing the comprehensive volunteering assistance to Ukraine.
Proud of the opportunity of the direct communication and receiving, on behalf of the delegation, the Navy flag of Ukraine’s 36th separate brigade of marines, whose original is now nearby Shyrokyne, as well as souvenirs, which were with the soldiers in the defensive positions protecting the Donetsk airport.
Ukrainian community and our friends had a great opportunity yesterday to meet Ukrainian singer Jamala, have a positive and warm discussion without forgetting important topics. The emotional atmosphere, smiles, hugs, flowers and singing altogether our National Anthem, led by Jamala herself – that made the evening unforgettable. Thanks to Jamala’s team and the organizers Unga Ukrainare, Ukrainska Kvinnounionen i Skandinavien and the Embassy of Ukraine in Sweden for having this great event. And of course thanks to everyone who came and participated!

On Friday the 22nd of January, Unga Ukrainare organized StoryBar #3. The first talk was given by Ilona Pouna – a Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe at SWIFT. Ilona described SWIFT’s organizational structure and explained how SWIFT provides financial communication between various instutions around the whole globe.
The second speaker was Tymofiy Lukinov – a PhD student in theoretical physics at KTH’s School of Engineering Sciences, Condensed matter theory department. Tymofiy talked about the development of the Universe from the Big Bang till nowadays, and presented the latest studies about the future of our Universe and its inevitable death.
We would like to thank all guests and especially our key speakers for taking part in this event.
On the 13th of November we hosted an evening with the representatives of the art association Остання Барикада Мистецьке Об’єднання (The Last Barricade), including Artem Polezhaka, a modern Ukrainian slam poet, and Oles Doniy – a Ukrainian politician and public figure, a founder of The Last Barricade, a former MP, as well as a the leader of the student hunger strike of 1990 and the “Revolution on the Granite” that led to Ukraine’s independence.
We’re thankful for an inspiring meeting, where we had an opportunity to listen to Polezhaka’s performance and to discuss with Doniy and others the current political situation in Ukraine.
On the 18th of October, Unga Ukrainare together with Ukrainska Kvinnounionen i Skandinavien organized a flashmob, building a “Living trident”, the national coat of arms of Ukraine. This initiative is dedicated to several important holidays in Ukraine – Defender of the Motherland Day, Day of Ukrainian Cossacks and Pokrov.
On the 18th of September another meeting for the members of Ukrainian Youth in Sweden was organized, where anyone interested had an opportunity to learn more about the organization, its activities and how one can get involved. During the event we trialed a new concept of peer-to-peer lectures, where UUS members had an opportunity to share their knowledge on various interesting topics – from science to hobbies. The purpose of these P2P lectures is to get to know each other better, and to learn from each other, exploring new disciplines. The first lecture and workshop “The Painting Orchestra” was given by a Ukrainian artist Tania Goryushina.
